Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 16, 2026
Sous Chef ("we," "our," or "us") is a personalized meal planning service. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. By using Sous Chef, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, your date of birth (used to confirm you are at least 18), and your acceptance of the Terms of Service and parental-consent attestation. Authentication is handled by Clerk (clerk.com).
Household Profile
To generate personalized meal plans, we collect information about your household members including names, ages, roles, dietary restrictions, food allergies, intolerances, and taste preferences. This information is provided voluntarily through our onboarding conversation.
Meal Planning Data
We store your meal plans, recipe feedback ratings, and any preferences you express during planning conversations. This data is used to improve future meal plan personalization.
Device Information
If you use our mobile app and enable push notifications, we store your device push token and timezone to deliver timely weekly reminders. This is optional and can be disabled at any time.
2. How We Use Your Information
- —Generate personalized weekly meal plans tailored to your household
- —Remember your household's preferences and dietary restrictions across sessions
- —Improve meal plan quality based on your feedback
- —Send weekly meal planning reminders (if push notifications are enabled)
- —Provide customer support
- —Maintain the security and integrity of our service
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your household data for advertising purposes.
3. Dietary and Health Information
To provide personalized meal planning, we collect dietary restrictions and food allergies, which may include health-related information. This data is used solely to generate appropriate meal plans. It is stored securely and never shared with third parties for marketing, insurance, or any other purpose outside of meal plan generation.
You can delete your household profile and all associated dietary information at any time from your account settings.
4. Children's Privacy and Parental Consent
Sous Chef is not directed to children. Only adults 18 years of age or older may create an account. We confirm age at signup by collecting a date of birth, and we reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that misrepresent age.
Children under 13 do not sign in to Sous Chef, do not interact with our conversational features, and do not receive communications from us. However, as part of planning household meals, adult account holders may enter information about children who live in the household — typically name (entered at whatever level of specificity the account holder chooses, such as a full name, initial, or nickname), age or birth date, role within the household, dietary restrictions, and food preferences.
At signup, each account holder confirms that they are 18 or older and, for any children under 13 added to their household profile, that they are the child's parent or legal guardian and provide consent under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) for Sous Chef to collect and use that information solely to generate age-appropriate meal plans. For paid subscriptions, the credit-card or app-store payment method further serves as a COPPA-recognized method of verifiable parental consent.
Information about children is used only for meal planning. It is never used for advertising, profiling, sold to third parties, or shared with parties outside the specific vendors listed in Section 5. A parent or guardian may review, correct, or delete any information about a child in their household at any time from the settings area, or by deleting the household or account entirely. You may also email privacy@meetsouschef.app to request review or deletion.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 without the required parental consent, contact us at privacy@meetsouschef.app and we will delete it promptly.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate Sous Chef:
Each service operates under its own privacy policy. Your meal planning conversations are processed by Anthropic's Claude AI to generate recipes. Conversation content is not used to train AI models.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data and household profile for as long as your account is active. Meal plans are retained indefinitely to provide access to your planning history.
If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information, household profile, and meal plan history within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- —Access the personal information we hold about you
- —Correct inaccurate information in your household profile
- —Delete your account and all associated data
- —Export your meal plan data
- —Opt out of push notifications at any time through your device settings
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@meetsouschef.app.
8. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure database storage, and authentication tokens to protect your data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your information.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Sous Chef after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
