Our story

Built by a dad who
ran out of time.

Not the desire to cook. Just the time.

When my daughter was born, I still wanted to cook. I just had less time to plan it, shop for it, think about it. So we did what a lot of families do: we signed up for a meal kit service. HelloFresh. Blue Apron. And honestly? It helped. The planning was handled. Groceries showed up at the door. I got to actually cook. But then the meals started repeating. And then I noticed the packaging. The little 1.5 oz vinegar bottles. The laminated cards. The same four proteins rotating on a six-week loop.

I live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. There are great farmer's markets here. I'd drive past them on my way home and think: I wish I could grab something there and just work it into the week. But the box had already arrived. The plan was already set. That's the thing about meal kits — once you're in, you're locked in. There's no room for a Saturday morning haul or whatever looked good at the stand on the corner.

What I actually wanted was simple: keep my family well nourished, eat food that felt connected to where we live, and have real variety — the kind that makes you curious about food again. The Middle Eastern dishes I'd always meant to try. The South American recipes that seemed too complicated for a Tuesday. And I wanted to spend the hour I was wasting on planning on something better — like being present with my kids.

Sous Chef is that solution. Not a box. Not a subscription that takes the cooking off your hands. A plan — personal, flexible, and built around your actual household — so the cooking stays yours and the overhead doesn't.

What we believe

Cooking should stay yours.

A sous chef in a professional kitchen doesn't cook the dish — they handle everything before the head chef picks up the pan. That's the job. Handle the overhead so the cooking itself stays a pleasure.

Families deserve to eat well.

Not just adequately. Well. That means nourishing food, real variety, and meals that your household actually loves — not meals a meal kit algorithm thinks are popular.

Curiosity is worth protecting.

The urge to try something new — to cook a dish from a cuisine you've never explored — is worth more than convenience. Sous Chef is built to fan that flame, not replace it with a rotating set of safe choices.

Your time has a real cost.

An hour spent planning dinner is an hour not spent somewhere better. We're not trying to remove the effort of cooking. We're returning the time that was never yours to give.

"You still have to put in an effort.
But you want to put in an effort."

That's the whole product, in two sentences. Sous Chef is for people who love to cook and want to keep loving it.
